Assam Govt Introduces Bill In Assembly To Shut Over 600 Govt-Run Madrasas; Congress, AIUDF Oppose The Move

The Assam government introduced Bills in the Assembly on Monday (28 December) to shut over 600 madrasas run by it, which was strongly opposed by the opposition Congress and AIUDF.
Assam Education and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introducing the bill in the assembly, said: The objective to introduce the bill the Assam Repealing bill 2020 would repeal of the Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation) Act 1995 and the Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation of services of employees and re-organisation of Madrassa Educational Institutions) Act 2018.

Guwahati, Dec 29 : Two Congress MLAs and a Bodo outfit s senior leader on Tuesday joined the BJP in Assam, months ahead of the Assembly elections.
Former Assam PWD Minister and Congress MLA from Golaghat Ajanta Neog, Congress Lakhipur MLA Rajdeep Gowala, and senior Bodoland People s Front (BPF) Bolendra Mushahary joined the ruling party in the presence of its state President Ranjeet Kumar Dass and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Mushahary is a former MLA of the BPF, an ally of the BJP since 2016. Gowala was also Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Assembly.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], December 29 (ANI): Expelled Congress MLAs Rajdeep Gowala and Ajanta Neog on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati.
After joining BJP, Neog said she had ideological differences with Congress and that there is no discipline in the party . Some days back I had met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. After this meeting, the way Congress behaved with me has left me very hurt. There are other issues like Congress alliance with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), she told reporters here.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], December 28 (ANI): Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, the first day of the Assam Legislative Assembly session, tabled a Bill to repeal the provincialisation of Madrassas in the state. We have introduced a Bill whereby all Madrassas will be converted into institutes of general education and no Madrassa will be established by the government in the future. We re happy to introduce this Bill to bring truly secular curriculum in the education system, Sarma told reporters after the bill was tabled in the assembly.
