Guwahati, April 6 (IANS) Over 61 per cent voters have exercised their franchise till 2 p.m. in the third and final phase of the Assam Assembly polls, conducted in 40 constituencies amid tight security, according to election officials.
Tuesday s balloting would decide the fate of 337 candidates, including 25 women aspirants.
All Covid-19 protocols for the voters including social distancing and thermal screening are being maintained.
Election officials said that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere of the 12 western Assam districts, bordering Bhutan, West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh, where balloting is underway peacefully and smoothly.

NEW DELHI: The stage is set for the busiest day of the ongoing election season with all the five states/UT West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry going to polls on April 6.
The polling will be held in a single-phase in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry while Assam will witness its third and final round of voting on Tuesday. In Bengal, this will be the third round in the eight-phase elections ending April 29.
BJP to form govt in Bengal, retain power in Assam: Shah

Guwahati, April 5 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government will be formed in West Bengal and the party would retain power for the second time in Asam.
Addressing a public gathering in Sarbhog in Barpeta district of western Assam on Sunday, Shah said that the BJP will win more than 200 Assembly seats in West Bengal.
“In the first two phases of election in Assam (on March 27 and April 1) the BJP has secured people’s mandate to form the government once again in the state. After five years of the BJP rule we can now proudly say that in Assam there is neither terrorism nor there is agitation and protests, no illegal immigration, there is only peace, all-round development, progress and prosperity,” he said.
