As we pause with J&J, vaccinations should remain a priority
Our view
The Taylor County vaccination effort was humming along until a wrench was thrown in the works Tuesday.
Responding to a call by federal officials, the Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District announced that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will not be used here for now.
Almost 800 doses were administered at a drive-thru clinic here Saturday. One person fell ill and was taken to the hospital afterward as a precaution but officials are not aware if it was related directly to the vaccine.
More than 7 million Americans have received this vaccination, with a rare blood-clotting disorder reported in six women between the ages of 18 and 48. This occurred 6-13 days after vaccinations. One woman in Virginia died.
