ALBANY County officials who have for years been planning for a mass vaccination said they are seeing that training and preparation much of it funded by millions of dollars in federal grants pushed aside as the administration of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has retained control of the state s coronavirus vaccination program, including having hospitals rather than local health departments administer the doses.

The nation s drugstores and groceries are racing to hire thousands of pharmacists and technicians to administer COVID-19 vaccines to the masses.
Pharmacies big and small were laying off pharmacists as recently as summer, as the profession s outlook grew dim. Now some of those same pharmacies and supermarkets are making public pleas, reaching out to retired workers and offering signing bonuses. Several retail pharmacy chains, including CVS Health Corp. and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., have agreed to work with the U.S. government to serve as Covid-19 vaccination sites.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has shown readiness on the recent announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in authorizing the use of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in various states in the United States.

In a press release, Scott J. Knoer, MS, PharmD, FASHP, executive vice president and CEO of the American Pharmacists Association, stated that the association will be ready in providing their services as essential health care providers during the course of the global pandemic.
“Throughout this past week, as the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine found its way into institutions and communities across the country, trained and trusted pharmacists, student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians delivered the vaccine to thousands of front-line health care providers and residents of long-term care facilities,” Knoer stated.
