States will begin vaccination in the 18-44 age group in a restricted manner starting Saturday. States with high caseload such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will begin inoculations in certain districts over Saturday and Sunday.

As Indiaâs healthcare system gets ready to implement the liberalised and accelerated phase-III strategy of Covid-19 vaccination from 1st May, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the Government of India has so far provided nearly 16 crore vaccine doses.
The centre provided more than 16 crore vaccine doses to various states and union territories (UT) at free of cost.
Of this, the total consumption including wastages is around 15.1 crore doses and more than one crore vaccine doses are available with the States/UTs to be administered.

It asked the states and Union territories to identify the districts where either the COVID positivity rate was more than 10 per cent or the bed occupancy was over 60 per cent in the last one week. The districts fulfilling any of the above two criteria should be considered for taking intensive and local containment measures, a statement issued by the MHA said.

The Centre on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that medical oxygen in any country cannot be unlimited and with the active and constant supervision of the Prime Minister it is augmenting the oxygen supply on a war footing to provide relief to COVID-19 patients. The government said oxygen supplies available at any given time in the country are to be distributed to all the states, especially those which are critically burdened with high number of active CO
