Estonia and Hungary celebrate centenary of diplomatic relations

Tomorrow 24 February, Estonia and Hungary celebrate 100 years since the day Hungary recognised the Republic of Estonia de jure, which laid the basis for formal diplomatic relations. Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets met with her Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó in Brussels yesterday 22 February. The foreign ministers congratulated each other on a century of diplomatic relations and affirmed confirmed the continuation of close cooperation. Estonia and Hungary are allies and friends in NATO, the European Union and the Three Seas Initiative. We are also united by the Finno-Ugric kindred peoples’ movement and the protection and promotion of the languages and cultures of our peoples.

Foreign Minister Liimets at the Foreign Affairs Council: EU showed unity in agreeing on sanctions on Russia
Today 22 February, Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets is in Brussels to attend the meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union.
The meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council covered EU-Russia relations and the situation in Hong Kong. The ministers also held a strategic discussion with the United States. The unity of the European Union is of key importance, Foreign Minister Liimets said. Regrettably, Russia is not genuinely interested in any constructive dialogue with the European Union. The European Union should proceed firmly as a principled values-based actor.
