Foreign Minister hosted the ambassadors of Norway, Sweden and Denmark to celebrate the anniversary of diplomatic relations
Today 5 February, Estonia celebrates a hundred years since the day Norway, Sweden and Denmark recognised the Republic of Estonia

The spread of the coronavirus had a great impact on the work of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2020. Advising and assisting citizens was a priority during the crisis in the springtime. This activity took place throughout the year 2020 and continues also this year.
Throughout the crisis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Estonia’s embassies have consistently collected information about pandemic-related restrictions on movement and measures aimed at stopping the spread of the virus (testing, self-isolation etc.). The Foreign Ministry has an efficient 24/7 helpline for verifying and elaborating rapidly changing information. In 2020, the round-the-clock helpline received 4246 calls, and 64% of these calls concerned consular issues. Today 3 February marks a hundred years from the day Portugal recognised the Republic of Estonia
de jure. Estonia and Portugal are celebrating the anniversary with a joint statement by their foreign ministries and a timeline compiled for the occasion.
Portugal recognised Estonia
de facto in 1918 and
de jure on 3 February 1921, and has continuously recognised the sovereignty of Estonia since. Portugal reaffirmed this with the re-recognition of Estonia on 27 August 1991 and the restoration of diplomatic relations on 1 October 1991.
In the joint statement, the foreign ministries of Estonia and Portugal note their strong and long relations, and their like-mindedness and eagerness to cooperate in many areas.
