Please note: This notice includes updated information about the rules for people who have previously tested positive for COVID-19 entering H.J. McFarland Memorial Home.   H.J. McFarland Memorial Home is taking extra precautions in order to prevent a COVID-19 outbreak at the long-term care home.   “While we recognize the importance of residents connecting with their caregivers and support workers, we are urging people to be mindful of the provincewide shutdown and stay-at-home order by only visiting if absolutely necessary,” said Kyle Cotton, Executive Director, H.J. McFarland Memorial Home.

Weekly COVID-19 trends in Ottawa showing signs of improvement

  OTTAWA Several weekly COVID-19 trends in Ottawa are showing signs of improvement following a third straight day of Ottawa Public Health reporting fewer than 100 new cases of COVID-19 each day. Ottawa Public Health is reporting 67 more people in Ottawa have tested positive for COVID-19 and two more people have died. OPH reported 56 new cases of COVID-19 in the city on Tuesday and 85 on Monday and also reported two new deaths each day. Ontario health officials reported 2,655 new cases of COVID-19 reported provincewide on Wednesday. Ontario also reported 89 new deaths and 3,714 resolved cases on Wednesday. According to Ottawa Public Health s COVID-19 dashboard, there have been 12,494 total lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa since the pandemic began and 409 residents have died.

HPEPH encouraging residents to quit smoking and vaping

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has issued a statement, as it’s National Non-Smoking Week. Staff note that it takes practice to quit smoking and vaping, but it can be done. “It may take between 7 and 30 attempts before being able to break the addiction for good, so if at first you don’t succeed, try again! Your perseverance will pay off, since quitting smoking or vaping is one of the best things a person can do for their health,” said HPEPH. Public Health add that given the impacts of COVID-19 to people’s respiratory system, quitting smoking and vaping is now more important than ever.
