OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health says 85 more people in Ottawa have tested positive for COVID-19, a low figure after several days of triple-digit daily case counts. Two more people in Ottawa have died. Across the province, a single-day drop in cases was also reported, with 2,578 new cases, the lowest figure since Jan. 1. Ontario reported 92 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa. Figures from the province and from OPH often differ due to data collection times. According to Ottawa Public Health s COVID-19 dashboard, there have been 12,371 total laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began. Two new deaths bring Ottawa s pandemic death toll to 405 residents.

A Tim Hortons in Wellington was forced to close over the weekend. Dr. Piotr Oglaza of Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has advised anyone who visited between January 8-13 might’ve had a low risk exposure of the Coronavirus because someone who visited during the dates tested positive.
Paul Massey, who operates the Wellington Tim Hortons declined to comment, but did confirm the store was closed Saturday afternoon and all-day Sunday to fully sanitize and have the drive thru running today
Dr. Oglaza also said in the statement to anyone who visited the restaurant must self-monitor and if symptoms develop, seek testing even if symptoms are very mild.

Local long-term care workers have begun receiving vaccinations against COVID-19, but most of the people eligible are still waiting for sufficient vaccine supply.
Ontario’s first phase of COVID-19 vaccination is underway and is to conclude by Feb. 15. It’s reserved mainly for residents of long-term care and retirement homes, as well as workers in those homes, those residents’ caregivers (including family), hospital workers, Indigenous adults and adult recipients of chronic home health care.
