Police, health officials warn of increased drug overdoses during pandemic

  KINGSTON, ONT. Police and health officials in Lennox and Addington say recent overdoses are highlighting a troubling trend in eastern Ontario. Kingston, Frontenac Lennox and Addington Public Health and Hastings Prince Edward Public Health are warning that the increase in overdoses and deaths is linked to a toxic batch of fentanyl making the rounds in areas like Belleville, Kingston and Napanee. “We’re probably having one person die, sadly, every three weeks,” says Kingston’s medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore. “And that’s been all year long.” Deputy Chief of Frontenac Paramedics Marc Goudie says that they’re finding many varieties of the drug.

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health issues statement on provincial lockdown

Premier Doug Ford announced yesterday, that Quinte and the rest of southern Ontario will go into lockdown for 28 days. Northern Ontario will be in lockdown for 14 days. Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health and CEO with HPEPH noted that it is imperative to get the virus under control, as the Hastings and Prince Edward counties have been an increase in cases over the past few weeks. “Please stay home unless you need to go out for essentials such as groceries, medical care or for work, and avoid socializing with anyone who does not live with you. If everyone adheres to these restrictions, we can get the number of cases under control and protect the most vulnerable in our community, preserve our health system capacity and save lives,” said Dr. Oglaza.
