Ottawa sees another dip in new COVID-19 cases, but slight rise in hospitalizations

OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health is reporting 16 more people in Ottawa have tested positive for COVID-19, the lowest figure in over a week. However, the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 increased for a second day in a row after dropping to a low of 18 on the weekend. The figures come one day after the provincial government announced a 28-day lockdown for southern and eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, despite relatively low figures compared to other parts of the province. Health officials reported 2,202 new cases of COVID-19 across Ontario along with 21 new deaths. There were 636 new cases in Toronto, 504 in Peel, 218 in York Region and 172 in Windsor-Essex County, which are already in lockdown status.

HPEPH reporting three new COVID-19 cases

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reporting three new cases of COVID-19, while four more have recovered. One case has been deemed community transmission, while the other two are listed as close contacts related to outbreaks. Staff note that there are a total of 29 active cases in Hastings and Prince Edward counties. 12 cases in Quinte West 9 cases in Prince Edward County 4 cases in Belleville 2 cases in Central Hastings The current seven day case rate per 100,000 people continues to fall, at now 14.2. Covid exposure possible on school bus

The risk is considered low, but it’s possible students who rode on a certain local school bus may have become infected with COVID-19 recently. Hastings Prince Edward Public Health officials say that out of an abundance of caution, anyone who rode on Craig Smith Bus Lines bus #895 to Kente Public School, Trenton High School, or St. Paul Catholic Secondary School December 14 through 18 should monitor themselves for symptoms and get tested if symptoms occur. One person who was on that bus on those dates has tested positive for COVID-19. The school bus was operating with proper infection control and screening measures at the time.
