Today, the Province of Ontario, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts announced a Provincewide Shutdown. Additional restrictions will come into effect in the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) region for 28 days starting Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 12:01 a.m.
“In our region we have seen an alarming increase in the number of COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks and it is imperative that we get it under control as quickly as possible,” says Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health and CEO at HPEPH. “The measures announced today, while difficult, are absolutely necessary. Please stay home unless you need to go out for essentials such as groceries, medical care or for work, and avoid socializing with anyone who does not live with you.
OTTAWA Starting Boxing Day, Ottawa and communities in eastern Ontario will be among the public health regions in the province locked down for 28 days. Premier Doug Ford announced the details of the lockdown on Monday, after new modelling data was released, forecasting a rise in COVID-19 cases and intensive care hospitalizations provincewide by the end of the year. Ottawa s COVID-19 numbers have been relatively stable in December compared to other public health regions like Toronto, York and Peel, but all of eastern Ontario is included in the 28-day shutdown. Regions in northern Ontario will be locked down for 14 days.
TORONTO The Ontario government is implementing a province-wide lockdown by the end of December, but the length of time each region will be under the new restrictions will vary. The lockdown will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 26 and will last for 28 days in the southern portions of the province and 14 days in the northern parts. The province-wide lockdown will look similar to the shutdown back in March, with only essential businesses allowed to remain open. Here is the breakdown of how long each region is expected to be in lockdown.

Saturday saw Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reporting several cases of COVID-19 in the region.
Two cases were confirmed at the Wellington Legion.
An investigation is underway, but in the meantime, they are asking anyone who attended the Legion between November 30 – December 18 to self isolate as they have the potential for high-risk exposure.
They should get tested as soon as possible.
Any individual who visited the Legion on these dates, who has not received a call from HPEPH by end of the day today (Sunday) is asked to contact HPEPH at 613-966-5500 or complete their online form for a risk assessment and to determine isolation dates.
Fast Facts: Ottawa Public Health reported zero patients with COVID-19 in the city s ICUs for the first time since September. Canada has surpassed 500,000 total COVID-19 cases. Visitors to the Royal Canadian Legion in Wellington, Ont. this month are asked to self-isolate due to COVID-19 risk.
