Initially delivering the news, Martine began: We ve just received a statement from Buckingham Palace confirming that the Duke of Edinburgh has died .
Suddenly the screen cut to a holding image as Martine could be heard saying, We are interrupting our normal programmes to bring you an important announcement.
Less than 10 seconds later, the camera turned back onto the newsreader, who was now clad in the black blazer, as she repeated news of the Duke s passing statement.

Prince Philip has passed away at age 99. The Royal Family announced the news in a statement that reads, It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.

People are being given the opportunity to pay their own condolences to Prince Philip after his sad death at 99.
In a statement, it said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s website was transformed into a memorial page to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Flags will fly at half mast on UK Government buildings in tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh from now until the morning after his funeral.
Following Philip’s death on Friday, guidance was issued by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on the flying of official flags.
All such flags, which include Union Flags and any national flag, are to be “half-masted on all UK government buildings as soon as possible today until 0800 on the day following the funeral”, the department said.
