Boris Johnson leads tributes as Prince Philip dies, aged 99. (PA) Boris Johnson has paid tribute to Prince Philip following his death at the age of 99. Speaking from Downing Street, the Prime Minister said: “He helped to steer the Royal Family and the monarchy so that it remains an institution indisputably vital to the balance and happiness of our national life.” Boris Johnson’s fiancee Carrie Symonds tweeted: “So very sad to hear of the passing of HRH, the Duke of Edinburgh. An incredible life devoted to the Queen, his family and our country. Thoughts and prayers with Her Majesty and the Royal Family.”
