Voting for the Mandal and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies elections (MPTC, ZPTC), is underway in the state of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday which commenced at 7 AM.
The State Election Commission(SEC) has already made necessary arrangements in place and was ready to conduct the polling.
Earlier State Election Commissioner Nilam Sawhney conducted a teleconference with district Collectors and police officials over the poll preparedness and security arrangements to be made to ensure free conduct of polls.
Over 2.46 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the elections for 7,220 MPTCs and 515 ZPTCs seats in 13 districts across the state.
NIA suspects he had links with naxals
Justice Raghunandan Rao of Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday passed a direction instructing National Investigation Agency (NIA) not to take coercive steps against lawyer V. Raghunath practising at Telangana High Court.
Recently, NIA searched the house of Mr. Raghunath, who is also Telangana Civil Liberties Committee State vice-president, in Dilsukhnagar here on suspicion that he had links with Maoist. The officials issued notices to the lawyer on completion of searches having seized some material from his house.
Meanwhile, Mr. Raghunath filed a writ petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking quashing of the criminal proceedings initiated against him by the NIA officials.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday stayed all proceedings for the conduct of elections to the mandal and zilla parishad territorial committees (MPTCs/ZPTCs). The hearing has been posted to April 15 with a direction to the State Election Commission to file its affidavit.
Senior-most Supreme Court judge Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana was on Tuesday appointed as the next Chief Justice of India. According to a notification issued by the government, Justice Ramana would take over as the 48th CJI on April 24 after incumbent CJI S A Bobde demits office a day before. Justice Ramana would retire on August 26, 2022. In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, Judge of the Supreme Court, to be the Chief Justice of India with effect from 24th April, 2021, the notification read.
