Justice NV Ramana sworn in as 48th Chief Justice of India
NEW DELHI : Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana on Saturday took over as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India. He is now the 48th Chief Justice of India (CJI) and succeeded the post after Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde.
President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to Justice Ramana in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and many other dignitaries at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Justice Ramana, a first-generation lawyer passionate about Carnatic music, will have a tenure of around one year and four months and will retire on August 26, 2022.

Andhra HC halts govt s plans to sell lands in Vizag

Amaravati, April 23 : The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday halted the state government s plans to sell government lands in Visakhapatnam.
The court decision came as it heard a petition challenging the sale decision.
Earlier also, the court stayed the government s plans to sell lands under Build AP, following a petition.
The court said the same stay orders will also apply now, considering the government issued notifications to sell lands at five places in the port city.
It also ordered tenders with respect to the sale not be finalised.

AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday directed TDP leader and former minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao who is currently in hiding to appear before the CID headquarters on April 29. This was in relation to the case registered against him by the AP Crime Investigation Department (CID) for posting morphed videos of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during the Tirupati Lok Sabha Elections campaign.
In a set back to the TDP leader who had filed a petition seeking the court to dismiss the case, Justice Raghunandhan Rao instructed that he appear before the CID and adjourned his petition to May 7.
