A former police officer who lives in the Hudson Valley has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with selling a handgun to an outlaw motorcycle club member and alerting them they were the target of a police investigation.
Ulster County resident Gregg Marinelli, age 39, of Plattekill, a former sergeant with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police, was sentenced on Wednesday, April 21, said Orange County District Attorney Dave Hoovler.
Marinelli had pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon and hindering prosecution in 2019.
At the time that he pleaded guilty, Marinelli admitted that sometime between June 2018, and Sept. 2018, he sold a pistol, which resembled a semi-automatic Glock pistol, to Paul Smith, who was then a lieutenant with the City of Middletown Fire Department.

Police were called to the home after getting calls that a female adult suspect was assaulting another woman who was trying to rescue a dog running in the street
During the investigation, officers learned Garcia had an outstanding felony bench warrant for vandalism.
Officers then handcuffed Garcia, who police said exhibited signs of being under the influence. The department said while waiting for paramedics to arrive at the scene, Garcia became combative with the officers.
One of the officers, who hasn t been identified, then punched Garcia twice in the face, according to the department. The cellphone video shows it.
Two other officers immediately intervened and deescalated the situation, the department said. The video shows them doing so.
Sandy Armento, who lives across the street, shot cell phone video of the altercation that s been circulating on social media.

WESTMINSTER, CA The Orange County District Attorney s Office will investigate the excessive use-of-force allegations against a Westminster Police officer caught on a smartphone video punching a handcuffed woman in the face.
That officer, whose name has not been released, has been placed on administrative leave during a subsequent investigation of their actions.
On Wednesday at about 4 p.m., three Westminster Police officers arrived at the scene on the 14100 block of Locust Street. There, a woman, identified as Ciomara Garcia of Westminster, was accused of assaulting another woman who was trying to rescue a dog running down the street, Westminster Commander Alan Iwashita said.
