Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 8 (ANI): Assam s Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday ruled out the possibility of night curfew or a lockdown in the state and urged people not to panic and stay alert as there is a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. There is no possibility of lockdown or night curfew in Assam. I request everyone to get themselves tested if they have symptoms. There is no need to panic but we should remain alert, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said.
Sarma said the state government has decided to conduct at least 1 lakh COVID-19 tests in the next seven days so that Bihu can be celebrated without any fear.

GUWAHATI: The ULFA (I) has released the second abducted Quippo employee Ram Kumar in an undisclosed location near the India-Myanmar border in Nagaland, said reports.
Reportedly, he is under the custody of the Assam Rifles.
Ram Kumar who worked as a radio operator was abducted with another employee Pranab Kumar Gogoi by the banned outfit on December 21 from the Kumchaikha drilling site in Innao area of Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh.

Assam’s Health and Family Welfare Department has issued an order making it mandatory for air and train passengers from Karnataka and Maharashtra to carry a negative RT-PCR report “in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country”.
The April 3 order almost coincided with State’s Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claiming “there is no COVID-19 in Assam” and it was unnecessary for people to wear masks.
