[Photo/Agencies] NEW DELHI - The Indian government Thursday approved a new emergency response package worth over $3 billion (INR 23,123 crore) to tackle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made following the first meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi s revamped cabinet. The union (federal) cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today has approved a new scheme India COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package: Phase-II amounting to INR 23,123 crore for FY 2021-22, a statement issued by the government said.

With this, total cases mounted to 3,07,52,950 including 4,58,727 active cases and 2,98,88,284 recoveries. The death toll is at 4,05,939 including the new deaths. The active cases constitute 1.49 percent of the total cases. The recovery rate has increased to 97.19 percent. The weekly positivity rate remains below 5 percent and is currently at 2.36 percent. The daily positivity rate is at 2.42 percent, remaining less than 3 percent for 18 consecutive days.
