Three mission respites – 2021 delights

Photo -  Midge Point Bible Study group celebrates Delma Tronson’s 68th birthday at the Point Tavern Three respite facilities for missionaries, home mission, chaplains, pastors, church professional personnel fall within the mission orbit of Well-Being Australia. The Whitsundays Laguna Quays Respite Aldinga Beach Retreat – 1 hour south of Adelaide Greens Beach, Bass Straight, TAS These mission respite facilities has provided many mission families / couples and chaplains - a much deserved rest and recuperation. This is a two 2 min video is of the Whitsundays Laguna Quays respite. Aldinga Beach Retreat Aldinga Beach Retreat is a one hour south from Adelaide airport and coordinated by MissionsInterlink, opened in November 2016, funded by Mr Basil Sellers AM who visited the Laguna Quays Respite in 2014-15. Basil asked me to send him in Sydney four mission executives toward a triage facility (more than rest).

Say Yes  -  the wedding dress

Photo  -  Whitsundays a honeymoon delight We had someone from New Zealand visiting and it was the first time they had seen ‘Say Yes to the Dress’  -  like my wife she became an avid viewer of ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ – in their view every girl’s dreams is wearing the wedding dress. Is there a social conspiracy with all this. A recent Huffington Post article on Australian marriage statistics gave rise to me pondering whether marriage is in many cases, conspiratorial. Australians have generally seen marriage as a wonderful exciting celebration of a man and a woman where family gets together in both solemness and festivities. Television programs such as Yes for the Dress highlight the dramas associated with this kind of traditional marriage (my wife Delma delights in this show).

ANZAC tourism in Israel

Photo - Empty tomb ANZAC tourism in Israel has always been massive. My wife Delma and I have led two Israel (Holy Land) tours with InnerFaith Travel. Each year I write an article on tourism to the Holy Land and this year is of particular interest with ANZAC Israel on the agenda. By leading Holy Land tours to Israel therefore I feel I have a close association with this type of tourism. There are innumerable ANZAC sites in Israel and many of these are associated with the Light Horse. The securing Jerusalem in 1917 into Allied hands is another. Israel drama

A postal story

Photo  -  Wild Animals, Midge Point – the Postie will get through How is this for a story  -  40 years late. A recent News.com article told the story of how the Viewbank Tennis Club were astonished to find a box delivered by Australia Post of sew-on patches, believed to have been ordered in the mid-1970s. The reason given by Australia Post: The box apparently fell behind some machinery at an Australia Post sorting centre, only to be discovered decades later as staff prepared to move. All those people who have been told their cheque is in the mail and never get it - might now know where all those envelopes are!

Job security -  even the clergy

Jobs disappear, different jobs are created – how safe are these jobs. The Sydney Morning Herald recently ran this story. It lists a wide variety of occupations that are under threat and a host that are relativity secure. The article cites Professor Roy Green, Dean of the University of Technology Sydney business school, who says many Australian jobs are being off-shored, automated and devalued by low-cost competition. We are going to see some very big changes, Green says. Obviously, as jobs get destroyed, others get created. We have all seen this process in place for some years and it is getting more pronounced.
