“New Zealand health officials are in contact with their Australian counterparts and are completing a risk assessment.” All passengers on an earlier flight from Perth to Melbourne, which carried a passenger who tested positive for Covid-19, have been contact traced. Despite the state s lockdown, the Fremantle-North clash, scheduled for 8:15 pm AEST at Optus Stadium on Saturday, will be allowed to go ahead due to a special exemption.
North Melbourne had already arrived in Perth before the lockdown was announced by Premier McGowan.
He visited a number of locations in the city, including a restaurant, and stayed at Saint Catherine’s College at the University of Western Australia. McGown said the female friend has since tested positive to Covid-19 and that concerns about Covid-19 leaking into the community had led him to declare a three-day lockdown in Perth and the Peel region from midnight on Friday. The Victorian man, from Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, was advised he was a close contact of a positive case when he arrived in Melbourne Wednesday, owing to the virus having spread on the same floor of the hotel where he had quarantined.
