If Warriors players were forced to pay more tax by being based in Australia, they would have been able to ask the club for more money.
The Warriors have been saved from having to pay out $5.5 million in taxes thanks to the latest Australian federal budget. Because the club’s players and staff have been based in Australia for longer than an 183-day threshold, they became liable to pay tax in that country at the highest rate. In a press conference with multicultural media organisations on Wednesday following the release of the budget, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that with hospitality workers and international students not returning earlier than July next year, the work hours for students who had remained in Australia had been extended from to 20 to 40 hours a week.
