Water advocates nervous as equity firms buy Nestlé bottled water

Nestlé Waters North America and its controversial Ice Mountain bottled water operations in Michigan are being sold to a pair of New York private equity firms and that has water advocates who ve knocked heads with Nestlé for years, alleging environmental impacts from its water extraction, worried about what comes next. One Rock Capital Partners LLC and Metropoulos & Co. this week announced an agreement to purchase Nestlé Waters North America, the U.S. and Canadian bottled water lines from Swiss-based Nestlé S.A., the largest food and drink company in the world, for a reported $4.3 billion. Nestlé has come under fire for its taking of Michigan groundwater essentially for free more than 1 million gallons per day at its Ice Mountain bottled water operation in Mecosta and Osceola counties   for nothing more than a $200-per-year state permit water that it then bottles and sells for profit. Nestlé officials have countered that they are far down the list of consumpti

Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Wanda Stokes levied the fine after a hearing Friday for Cafe Rosetta owner Amy Heikkinen to explain why she shouldn’t be held in contempt of court for violating its previous order. Cafe Rosetta has already paid $7,500 in previous fines for violating the state’s emergency order and previous court orders.

Photo by CJ Weiss | The State News The Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) has closed its offices and canceled COVID-19 vaccinations for Tuesday due to the snowstorm that occurred Monday evening.  People who had an appointment for vaccination should reschedule using their confirmation email. Another email with additional instructions will be sent for those who cannot reschedule. The ICHD will also call people who do not have an email address, according to an ICHD tweet.
