Of the nine new cases, two are a result of the outbreak at Southbridge Roseview Manor, three are listed as the result of close contact, three from travel outside of Northwestern Ontario, and one has no known exposure. In the district, 20 cases are also listed as resolved, bringing the total number of active cases to 95.

A Personal Support Worker was the first person in the region to get the Pfizer vaccine, getting the first of two doses this morning. Thunder Bay District Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille says it will be a “six- to nine-month process,” and the vaccine won’t be available to the wider community until April or later. The first few months will focus on healthcare workers and other high-priority groups identified by the province.

Of the remaining cases, eight are determined to be the result of close contact and one is listed as pending. The 14 cases at Southbridge Roseview are the result of surveillance testing conducted on staff and residents on Dec. 21. According to the Southbridge Roseview website, there are 21 active cases of COVID-19 among residents and 10 active staff cases.
