Four More COVID Cases In Dryden Area

The Northwestern Health Unit says there were another seven cases of COVID-19 in the region. Four are in the Dryden area and three in the Sioux Lookout Health Hub. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says the Dryden cases seem to be from a two cluster of cases. One is the KFC outbreak and the other is a private group of individuals where the virus was brought into the community from another part of Ontario. Dr. Young Hoon says they have done the contact tracing for the Dryden KFC. The restaurant is closed but that wasn’t from a health unit order.

Active COVID-19 case count climbs for second straight day

THUNDER BAY - The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay District has climbed for the second straight day as new cases once again outnumber previous cases now resolved. On Thursday, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported six new COVID-19 cases. With only one previous case listed as resolved, the active case count climbed to 36, up from 31 on Wednesday. Of the new cases, five are from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas and one in a First Nation community. Three cases are the result of close contact, two have no known exposure, and one is still pending. There are no new variants of concern detected in the region, nor any additional hospitalizations. Currently there are four district hospitalizations with one individual in the intensive care unit.

Pharmacist Vinay Kapoor hasn’t had a supply of vaccines in two weeks, after the AstraZeneca shipments were halted to Thunder Bay and instead sent to hot spot areas to help cut down soaring COVID-19 case numbers. “We’re not sure of an exact date of availability, so just monitor the website. Once the vaccine comes into the store we’ll make those spots available, probably starting late next week or the following week,” Kapoor said.
