York County salvage yard office manager returns unexpected items found in cars

People leave all kinds of items in vehicles that end up at Red Lion Salvage in York County.But two recent finds were more unusual than most, and the office manager made it her mission to find their rightful place.Sheila Ferraro thought she had seen it all until an abandoned car ended up at the business about a year ago. When they opened up the trunk to take the spare tire and the jack out, that s when they saw the urn, she said.The urn had the remains of a Lancaster man and a tag from the Lancaster County Coroner s Office. I was like, oh, my God, this is creepy. And then I m like, wait this is a person. I’ve got to find where he belongs, Ferraro said.She reached out to the coroner s office. A woman who was a deputy coroner at the time went to the salvage yard to retrieve the urn, and it was eventually returned to the man’s family.About a year later, workers discovered a casket flag for veteran Leonard Pietras in another vehicle.Ferraro contacted the VFW. Mary C. Dimter, also known as Mitzi of St. Anne s Retirement Community passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was 91 years of age. Mitzi was married for 52 years to her loving husband, Jerry, who died in 2000. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 4, 1929, the daughter of the late Leo G. and Mary C. (Genthert) Emig. At the age of 13, her mother passed away leaving her to help her father raise three young siblings. She began working at Bell Telephone Company when she was 16. She continued to work for Bell Telephone after Jerry and she moved to Lancaster in 1955. Mitzi began a long career as an interior designer in the 1960 s. She worked in that industry until they moved to Florida in 1994.

He was a super hero, donating all of his organs through Gift of Life. He provided other families’ loved ones to have the opportunity to have a second chance at life. He was born July 15, 2002, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, to Harold Jr. and JoAnn Marie (Thomas) Booth. He completed his junior year at Greenwood High School. He loved playing video games on his computer, magic cards and playing with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed playing recreational soccer through Ickesburg and played on the Greenwood High School team. He was a member of Cub Pack 7 of Millerstown and Boy Scout Troop 7 of Youngs United Methodist Church, Shermans Dale. He worked at Hidden Valley Scout Camp, Loysville, for one summer. Valeria Yackshaw Genetti, 83, Hazleton The wife of Gus Genetti Jr., Val had a witty sense of humor and an endearing smile. Her favorite things were family and traveling, but mostly it was combining the two — traveling with her family around the world. She loved Neil Diamond and ABBA, enjoyed playing pinochle, reading Danielle Steele books, watching detective-cop shows and enjoying coffee in her bedroom in the mornings. She was the vice president of the Genetti Hospitality Group of Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport and Dickson City. She was a past board member of King’s College Century Club, past president of W-B Jaycettes, past president of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Auxiliary, past board of directors of CYC, member of the Slovak Heritage Society and a volunteer of NEPA Red Cross Blood Center. She died Dec. 22.
