PUNE: World Health Organisation (WHO) chief scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan on Friday said India could initiate research on heterologous administration (mix and match) of various Covid-19 vaccines to study the breadth and duration of immune responses as well as protection.
“In the long term, if effective and safe, such a strategy could help countries manage supply constraints, while providing flexibility in vaccination programmes. It is also possible that combinations have an advantage in stimulating immune responses, but this can only be confirmed through research studies,” Swaminathan told TOI.
Two studies recently demonstrated that the AstraZeneca vaccine followed by the Biontech/Pfizer as the second dose resulted in high levels of neutralizing antibodies. “There are studies going on. India reports 38,164 new COVID-19 cases, recovery rate reaches 97.32 pc ANI | Updated: Jul 19, 2021 10:47 IST
New Delhi [India], July 19 (ANI): With an increased recovery rate of 97.32 per cent, India witnessed 38,660 recoveries from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the recovery tally to 3,03,08,456.
As many as 38,164 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry on Monday.
The active cases further declined to 4,21,665, while it constitutes 1.35 per cent of total cases.
The daily positivity rate remained been below 3 per cent for 28 consecutive days and stood at 2.61 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate remained below 5 per cent and stood at 2.08 per cent.

Following concerns over overcrowding on the Ridge and the Mall, especially on weekends, the district administration has enforced strict Covid restrictions to ensure social-distancing.
With concerns being raised from various quarters, including the Indian Council of Medical Research and the courts, on the surging crowds in the Queen of Hills and at other popular hill stations, the administration has enforced strict regulations.
The administration has regulated the entry of tourists onto the Ridge and the Mall. Also, most of the benches placed on the Ridge have been removed so that people do not crowd there and keep moving. Only a few benches have been left for the convenience of senior citizens.
