The Centre has asked state governments to implement ‘ring vaccination’ around districts showing a high test positivity rate of over 10%. Ring vaccination is a technical term used to inoculate susceptible individuals near the area of an outbreak. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the health ministry have asked state governments to identify an area of Covid-19 outbreak especially in districts showing high test positivity rate of over 10% and then implement the concept of ring vaccination.

According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, the country saw a total of 44,291 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 2,98,43,825.

The total active cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 4,60,704, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 4,05,028.Â
The first death due to Covid-19 pandemic in India was reported last year in March.Â
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 42,52,25,897 samples have been tested up to July 07 for Covid-19. Of these 18,93,800 samples were tested on Wednesday.

new coronavirus cases. The active cases have now come down below 5 lakh. The country has 4,60,704 active cases presently and has witnessed a total of 4,05,028 deaths so far.
According to the
Union Health Ministry, a total of 44,291 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 2,98,43,825 till date.
The Ministry said that a total of 36,48,47,549 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 33,81,671 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
“Active cases constitute 1.50% of total cases. Recovery Rate increases to 97.18%. Weekly Positivity Rate below 5%, currently at 2.37%. Daily positivity rate at 2.42%, less than 3% for 17 consecutive days. Testing capacity ramped up – 42.52cr tests total conducted,” the Health Ministry said.

Covid-19: Rajasthan, Arunachal blame faulty data for high positivity

According to health ministry statistics for the week ended July 3, Arunachal Pradesh has the most number of districts 19 reporting a test positivity rate of 10% or higher. It was followed by Rajasthan with 12 districts. A positivity of 10% is considered a cause for concern.

Arunachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, which are reporting the highest number of districts with over 10% test positivity rate, have blamed it on faulty data and said they do not have a single district reporting such high positivity.
