Share Via Email   |  A+A A- By PTI NEW DELHI: The crucial Budget session of Parliament is set for a stormy start with as many as 18 opposition parties announcing their decision to boycott the President s address to a joint sitting of both houses on Friday, in solidarity with the farmers agitating against the three contentious farm laws.

Opposition raises slogans during presidential address Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu raised slogans during President s address demanding a repeal of three farm laws. Members of various opposition parties on Friday raised slogans in Lok Sabha demanding repeal of the three new farm laws on day one of the Budget session. As soon as the House paid tributes to late Union minister Suresh Angadi and 26 former members, Congress, DMK and the Left parties entered the Well of the House raising slogans. Shiv Sena members were raising slogans from their seats. The opposition members were demanding the repeal of the three new farm laws. They were also demanding that obituary be paid to the farmers who have died during the agitation by farmers against the legislations.

Sreeramakrishnan by next week in the dollar smuggling case, according to informed sources. The sources revealed that the Speaker will be questioned unofficially without serving a notice and the Customs Department has received a legal opinion in this regard. During their appearance before the the Department, the two accused in the gold and dollar smuggling case, Swapna Prabha Suresh and P.S. Sarith, said that Sreeramakrishnan is also involved. They have also given written statements before the Department that the smuggled dollars were used to buy stakes in an educational institution in Oman.

Besides Congress, the 15 other parties are NCP, Shiv Sena, AITC, DMK, JKNC, SP, RJD, CPI(M),  CPI, IUML, RSP, PDP, MDMK, Kerala Congress and AIUDF. While 16 opposition parties issued a joint statement announcing their decision to boycott the President s address, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) also separately announced their decision to boycott the address.
