The throes of a pandemic might seem an inauspicious time to open a new restaurant or food store, but Bloomington has seen a healthy number of new such venues launch in the face of considerable obstacles. Consider that on-site dining was shut down entirely for two months, then limited to 50% capacity, and is still constrained by the requirement that tables be spaced 6 feet apart. Also consider that many people remain uncomfortable dining out. All the same, a number of people both industry veterans and newcomers have taken the plunge despite the challenges. Here are a few.
LAGRANGE â Travis Glick has been nominated by the LaGrange County Republican Party to fill the soon to be vacant job of LaGrange County Prosecutor.
Glick was nominated Tuesday night to fill the final two years of the prosecutorâs term in office by a caucus of Republican precinct committee members.
Glick, 38, had served as the LaGrange County Prosecutorâs office chief deputy. He will replace Greg Kenner, the current LaGrange County Prosecutor who will retire at the end of this year. Kenner has two years left on his current term, and nominated Glick, saying Glick was the right person to take over as the countyâs prosecutor.

A Wells County barbecue restaurant wants to go back to pre-pandemic business as usual, and sued the Wells County Health Department and Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb this week in Wells County Circuit Court.
Filed Tuesday by attorneys for Yergy’s State Road BBQ in Bluffton, the lawsuit alleges Holcomb and the Wells County Health Department violated their constitutional rights by enforcing a health ordinance based on Holcomb’s emergency orders.
Those orders require facial coverings by staff and limit indoor capacity in restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yergy’s was found in violation and effectively shut down in August..

INDIANAPOLIS The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has taken action on a number of pending unemployment cases following a 13News investigation that exposed a severe backlog of unemployment claims across Indiana.
But thousands of other cases remain in limbo, resulting in evictions and homelessness for some Hoosiers who have waited months for DWD to resolve their claims.
