Approximately 560 Washington County children will have presents under the Christmas tree as a result of this year’s Salvation Army Angel Tree program in Marietta.
Gifts were distributed drive-thru style at the rear of the fair board office at the Washington County Fairgrounds on Thursday.
Lt. Megan Moretz of the Salvation Army in Marietta said this was done as a drive-thru at a secondary location to keep the parents and volunteers safe. Their offices are on Front Street in Marietta.

CHICO, Calf. - Every year, The Salvation Army Angel Tree program delivers Christmas cheer to thousands of kids all across the country, including right here at home.
One local woman who was one of those children, is now paying it forward. She shared her story with Action News Now Reporter Kristian Lopez. When I was 9 my mom and I fell to unfortunate circumstances and I remember looking over at the tree and thinking I would likely not get a gift that year, said Christina Palmer.

Those who took tags from the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree are asked to turn in their newly-purchased gifts by the end of the day today, Dec. 18, said Julie Smith, executive director of the Salvation Army in Ellis County.
The gifts, which will go to children from low-income families, should be returned unwrapped to Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, 4310 Vine. Smith said the program would serve about 125 children, ages birth through 18, this year.
Volunteers are needed to wrap the gifts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the Hadley Center Conference Room, 205 E. Seventh. Volunteers are also needed to hand out gifts to families from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, in the same location. Volunteer walk-ins are welcome, Smith said.
