Apr 24, 2021 ST. CLAIRSVILLE St. Clairsville City Schools will offer Extended Learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on Ohio schools. St. Clairsville students will have an opportunity this summer to close educational gaps resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. This is in compliance with the governor’s request to address academic needs within the district. Each building will identify student needs based on classroom performance, credit deficiency and teacher recommendation, among other factors. The high school and middle school program will run the month of June and the elementary program will run two weeks in June, two weeks in July and one week in August.

As $2.7 billion makes its way from Washington to the Garden State, Gov. Phil Murphy s vision for education in September is becoming clear.  “We want to be I want to be unequivocal about this,” Murphy said, at a March 24 COVID-19 briefing. We are expecting Monday through Friday in person, every school, every district.” Can administrators make it happen?  Some South Jersey school districts are already testing in-person education by inviting students back for full days, meals and extra-curriculars. 

Solanco OKs proposed budget with 3 5% tax hike

When: Board meeting held virtually via Zoom and YouTube, April 19. What happened: After a detailed budget presentation by district business manager Sandy Tucker, the board approved the preliminary budget for advertisement including a 3.5% tax increase. If approved, this will bring the millage rate to 11.344 mills. The cost: For a property with an assessed value of $100,000, the tax increase would be $38.36. Background: The district raised taxes by 1.25% last year, less than was allowed by the state’s Act 1 index, in consideration of financial hardships during the pandemic. During the current school year, the district received a total of $2.35 million in grant money, which was used mostly for technology and cleaning. Solanco is expected to receive Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief  federal grant funds of $6.9 million to be used by Sept. 30, 2023, and a total of $13.9 to be spent by the end of September 2024. Some items will be paid for with emergency relief fund Apr 23, 2021 BELLWOOD Bellwood-Antis School Board members on Tuesday approved several purchases, including some using money from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund. The district has received just over $2.23 million in ESSER funds, Superintendent Thomas McInroy said. “We have to decide how we can best utilize the ESSER money. We are trying to be smart. We do not want to squander this opportunity, we want to do what is best. We are not swimming in money. We now have this money we should have received all along,” McInroy said.
