Gardaà investigating organised crime in Drogheda, Co Louth, where a gang feud has claimed four lives in the past three years, were forced to evacuate residents from their homes on a street in the town late on Thursday night after an explosives manufacturing facility was discovered in a nearby house.
Gardaà seized an arsenal of weapons and a quantity of drugs, with the Army called in to clear the scene due to the danger posed by the explosive material found.
The people who had to be evacuated spent most of the night out of their homes while the house was searched and cleared.

Two pipe bombs, gunpowder, ammunition and drugs have been seized in Co Louth, the Garda said.
The haul was discovered when gardaí investigating organised crime searched a house in Drogheda town at 11pm yesterday.
They discovered 1,100 euro worth of suspected cocaine and 500 euro worth of suspected Alprazolam tablets along with the pipe bombs and a large quantity of firearms ammunition.
The scene was cordoned off and a number of houses in the area were evacuated as part of the operation.

The Army bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion near Oldbridge House outside Drogheda last night.
A section of the boardwalk outside the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre was sealed off yesterday morning after a viable device was discovered.
The scene was declared safe by the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team just after 8.20pm and has since fully reopened.
The suspect device, which resembled a mortar, was initially found by a member of the public.
Gardaí say no one was injured and investigations are ongoing.
