A Mount Olive man was charged with possessing child pornography on Friday as part of an investigation led by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office.
Michael Curran who was charged in Macoupin County Circuit Court faces 10 counts of possession of child pornography. Each of the Class 2 felony counts is punishable by up to three to seven years in prison. Curran’s bond was set at $100,000.
With the assistance of the Mount Olive Police Department and the Macoupin County sheriff’s office, Raoul’s investigators searched a residence in the 300 block of East Fourth North Street on Thursday. Curran, 69, was arrested after evidence of child pornography was discovered, according to a press release from Raoul s office.

MOUNT OLIVE A Macoupin County man is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail after his arrest on child pornography charges.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul said Michael F. Curran, 69, of Mount Olive was arrested on 10 counts of possession of child pornography, each a felony punishable by three to seven years in prison.
State investigators, with the assistance of Mount Olive Police Department and Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department, searched a residence Thursday in the 300 block of East Fourth North Street and arrested Curran after saying they found evidence of child pornography.
“Child pornography forever changes the lives of victims and their families and those who perpetuate these horrific crimes must be held accountable,” Raoul said.

PEORIA â A Hoopeston man has been indicted on charges of child sexual exploitation and trafficking in child pornography.
The charges against Dalton M.C. Burmeister, 27, returned by a federal grand jury allege that in September, he exploited children under the age of 6 to engage in sexual activity that he recorded and then shared with others.
Burmeister has been in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since his arrest Dec. 22.
If convicted, the penalty for each of the four counts of child sexual exploitation is 15 to 30 years in prison; five to 20 years for each of the three counts of distribution and one count of receiving child pornography; and up to 20 years for the single count of possession of child pornography.
