China says will achieve carbon neutrality by 2060
China is accelerating the pace of low-carbon innovation to combat the challenges and threats posed by climate change. President XI Jinping pledged in September 2020 to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. National plans and initiatives were laid out to achieve these targets in December 2020. China’s Special Envoy on Climate Change Mr. XIE Zhenhua stressed in his keynote that these goals demonstrate China’s solemn commitment to tackling climate change to the world which require Herculean efforts.
In this high-powered “China Masters Series” live webinar, Mr. Xie shared China’s roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality and exchanged views with international climate experts on building a cooperative, win-win global climate management system. The forum is co-organised by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) yesterday.

USC Australia’s result in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young Universities Rankings for 2021 has highlighted its success in becoming a globally significant, world-class university.
Listed at 161 of 475 universities worldwide assessed by the rankings scheme this year, USC has finished ahead of almost two-thirds of its peers – described by THE as the “rising stars of higher education”.
The Times Higher Education website explains that its Young University Rankings list the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger.
“The universities are judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available,” it says.
KUALA LUMPUR (July 5): An alliance of four Malaysian government-linked universities (GLU) have established themselves as top institutions by consistently getting good national and international ratings.
Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Multimedia University (MMU) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) are wholly-owned by government-linked companies (GLC) and have made it into the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, as well as been recognised by the Malaysia Research Assessment instrument (MyRA) and Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (SETARA).
GLU, in a statement today, said that UTP is ranked 70th in the QS Asia Rankings 2021, UNITEN is 168th, MMU is 190th and UniKL is in the 291st to 300th ranking band.
