Man suffers serious injuries in Peak Downs Highway crash

Premium Content Subscriber only A man suffered head and leg injuries and the Peak Downs Highway was shut after a tow truck crashed west of Mackay Wednesday. Police reported a truck was towing a vehicle when it left the highway near Old Rocky Waterholes Rd near Greenmount, southwest of Walkerston, about 7.50pm. Paramedics treated a man at the scene for head and leg injuries before he was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition. A critical care paramedic was on board for the transport. The Peak Downs Highway was closed for more than an hour as the truck and vehicle it was towing was cleared from the scene.

Student drink-drives more than three times over BAC limit

Mackay Magistrates Court heard 21-year-old Georgia Gemma King returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.172 in the early hours of April 2. Prosecutor Harry Coburn said Mackay police found the nursing student sitting beside her car, which had a flat tyre, at 1.25am along Broadsound Street in Paget. He said King had earlier drank a six-pack of beer as well as two flutes of wine over five hours after returning home from work to her Walkerston home.
