Court report: Week of March 8

According to the Summit County Attorney’s Office, the following cases were heard on Monday, March 8, in 3rd District Court at the Summit County Justice Center. Meredith Leigh Kaly, 48, of Salt Lake City, pleaded guilty to attempted unlawful acquisition, possession or transfer of a financial transaction card, a class A misdemeanor, and possession of another’s identifying documents, a class A misdemeanor. The court placed the defendant on court probation for 12 months and ordered the defendant to complete standard terms and conditions. The court also imposed suspended 364-day jail sentences on each count, which would run concurrently. Monica Alvarado, 48, of Park City, entered into an 18-month plea in abeyance to tampering with a witness, a third-degree felony. The court ordered the defendant to pay a fee of $300 and complete other standard terms and conditions.

According to the Summit County Attorney’s Office, the following cases were heard on Monday, Feb. 22, in 3rd District Court at the Summit County Justice Center. Shaun Thomas Moyer, 37, of Murray, entered into a 12-month plea in abeyance to assault, a class A misdemeanor. The court ordered the defendant to pay $1,500 in restitution and complete other standard terms and conditions. Darrell Stewart Sargent, 28, of Oakley, entered a guilty plea to assault by prisoner, a third-degree felony. The court placed the defendant on court probation for 36 months with adult probation and parole, and ordered the defendant to serve 364 days in jail with possible early release to a treatment facility and to complete other standard terms and conditions.

Summit County weighs what to do about trail overcrowding

Summit County on Wednesday heard short- and long-term plans from the group working to alleviate trail overcrowding. The Snyderville Basin Recreation District has taken steps to address the issue, including ticketing vehicles that are parked illegally and installing trail counters to help officials plan how best to disperse traffic. Other short-term plans include installing bike racks at trailheads, and changing the direction of trails and the uses allowed on them during peak times. Park Record file photo The official who manages trails for the Snyderville Basin Recreation District recently described a vision for the future, a shuttle system that could pick people up from Main Street or transit centers and bring them deep into the Basin’s trail network. That would ease congestion issues and enable users to get lost in nature more easily than if they’d driven themselves and parked at trailheads.
