9PM: At least 1 person buried in Park City avalanche

PARK CITY Officials on Sunday recovered the body of a Park City man who died in a Summit County backcountry avalanche the day before.
Kurt Damschroder, 57, was caught in the avalanche triggered while he and another skier were recreating in the Square Top area outside the Canyons Village area of Park City Mountain Resort.
Summit County Sheriff s Lt. Andrew Wright said Sunday that Damschroder s body was recovered about 11 a.m. Sunday after mitigation efforts made the area safer to approach. He was buried in about 4 feet of snow, Wright said.

Rescuers in Utah scrambled Sunday to reach a skier left buried under an avalanche in the backcountry a day earlier, officials said.
Two skiers triggered the avalanche around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in an area known as Square Top, located outside the resort boundaries near Park City Mountains Canyon Village, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
One skier escaped the avalanche and dug to their buried friend. The skier attempted life-saving efforts on the friend but was forced to leave the area due to the extreme avalanche danger, according to the sheriff’s office.

COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) - The Ohio Blue Ribbon Arson Committee is offering a $5,000 reward for information on the suspected arson of a Summit County home.
Tips must lead to an arrest of the person responsible for starting the fire, which took place on Jan. 6, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigation revealed the fire was likely intentional, according to a release.
Law enforcement said the fire destroyed the home, which was located on Penguin Drive in Coventry Township.
Police officers directed traffic during the Sundance Film Festival at the intersection of Main Street and Heber Avenue in 2019, one of the typical law enforcement duties as the festival unfolds. The Park City Police Department is preparing for Sundance in 2021 even though there are not live events planned.

There will not be any movie stars needing assistance on Main Street this week during the Sundance Film Festival.
No demonstrators are expected. The traffic will likely not be much worse than it has been recently. And it seems unlikely the typical mayhem of the festival will return.

Deputies arrested a 34-year-old Orem man after he appeared to try to drunkenly pick a fight with a martial arts instructor, according to a report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded on Wednesday to the scene in Pinebrook, where witnesses reported that the man was being aggressive with a martial arts instructor and appeared intoxicated, according to the report.
Deputies indicated the man assaulted the instructor and that he had a warrant out for his arrest. Deputies booked the man into the Summit County Jail.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement responded to several other calls between Monday, Jan. 18, and Sunday, Jan. 24, including multiple stolen vehicles and thefts from unlocked vehicles outside a Kimball Junction bar.
