PHC confirms BBA of Abdul Latif Afridi

PESHAWAR: A single bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday confirmed the bail before arrest (BBA) application of Abdul Latif Afridi, President, Supreme Court Bar Association.
He was charged in the murder of an anti-terrorism court judge Aftab Afridi and three other members of the family who were shot dead on the Motorway near Swabi last month.Abdul Latif Afridi had moved the PHC for a BBA that was confirmed on Monday. Police have arrested other accused in the case nominated by the son of the deceased judge. The Supreme Court Bar Association had denied the involvement of its chief in the case.

PESHAWAR: A single-member Peshawar High Court bench on Monday confirmed the pre-arrest bail of Supreme Court Bar Association president Abdul Lateef Afridi, who was charged by the counter-terrorism department (CTD) with abetting the killing of an anti-terrorism court’s judge and his three family members last month.
Justice Mohammad Nasir Mehfooz accepted Lateef Afridi’s bail plea after the completion of arguments by both sides.
The petitioner was given an interim pre-arrest bail by the court on Apr 7.

The SCBA president further said: “It has also been the convention that once a judicial order is passed for listing of matter by Vacation Bench, the matter could not be deleted by the Registry under any circumstances.
Singhvi, one of the top lawyers of the country commanding fees that could be matched by few at present, said finding such high charges awkward, senior advocate Murli Bhandare, who held two terms as president of Supreme Court Bar Association, had proposed a resolution capping the legal fees to be charged by senior advocates.
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has written to the Union Health Ministry requesting it to sanction 2,500 doses of Covid-19 vaccine Covishield on an urgent basis and allocate it to the Delhi government s vaccination centre at the apex court for vaccinating members of the bar body expeditiously.
In his May 17 letter, senior advocate and SCBA president Vikas Singh has said that considering the “grim situation” where the bar body has lost 90 of its members in the recent past, an appropriate direction may be issued to vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII) so that Covishield doses could be provided on an urgent basis.
