PM Modi approves Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for Uttarakhand victims Indo-Asian News Service
Uttarakhand: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the PM’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragic avalanche caused by a Glacier breach in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. The central government has also announced Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured.
In a massive flood in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, 100 to 150 people are feared to be dead, while 10 bodies have been recovered so far. According to state Chief Secretary OM Prakash, 100 to 150 casualties are feared in the flash flood where the water level in Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers rose suddenly after an avalanche near Rishiganga Power Project at Raini village.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased. The PMO also said Rs 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured.

The Home Minister said besides the NDRF and the State Disaster Response Force, teams of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have reached the affected areas. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday spoke to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and assured him of all possible support to deal with the situation arising in the wake of a glacier breaking off and causing flood in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.
In a series of tweets in Hindi, Mr. Shah said teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed for rescue and relief operations while additional troops of the force were being airlifted from Delhi.
