In an urgent resolution adopted on 8th of July, the European Parliament condemned the forced closure of Apple Daily newspaper and urged for the immediate release of all detained journalists in Hong Kong. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) commends this much-needed resolution addressing the escalating crackdown on press freedom in the territory.

Apple Daily, the last Chinese-language print media critical of the Beijing regime, and the rapid deterioration of press freedom in Hong Kong. The European Parliament also called on the Hong Kong government to immediately and unconditionally release and drop charges against all journalists.

HANOI: Vietnam on Friday jailed a former radio journalist on an anti-state charge, state media said, after several other reporters were taken into custody in recent weeks.
The hardline administration moves swiftly to stamp out dissent and arrest critics, especially those who find an audience on social media platforms.
On Friday, Pham Chi Thanh, a 68-year-old pro-democracy activist fiercely critical of the regime on Facebook, was imprisoned for five and a half years on the charge of making, hoarding, disseminating and spreading information and documents against the socialist republic of Vietnam , according to state-run Vietnam News Agency.
