Taiwan tire exporters face U.S. anti-dumping tariffs

Taipei, May 25 (CNA) Suppliers of car and truck tires from Taiwan and three other countries are facing anti-dumping tariffs after American authorities largely upheld a preliminary ruling accusing them of selling products at unfairly low prices in the United States.
According to the latest decision by the U.S. Department of Commerce released Monday, anti-dumping tariffs ranging between 14.62 percent and 101.84 percent will be imposed on tire makers from Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, with Taiwan to face the highest penalties.
Taiwan s Nankang Rubber Tire Corp. and Cheng Shin Rubber Ind. Co., the two Taiwanese mandatory respondents in the case, will face anti-dumping tariffs of 101.84 percent and 20.04 percent, respectively, while an 84.75 percent penalty has been imposed on other Taiwanese exporters.
USITC investigates Apple Watch over patent claims

The US International Trade Commission will launch an investigation into Apple over potential infringement of electrocardiogram (ECG) patents by Apple.
This decision was prompted by a complaint filed by AliveCor on April 20, 2021, which alleges that Apple violated Section 337 of the Tariff Act through the import and sale of Apple Watches that the company alleges infringes on its patents.
In the complaint, AliveCor requests that the USITC issues a limited exclusion order and a cease and desist order.
AliveCor was the first company to launch an ECG device, named the KardiaBand, which added heart-monitoring functionality to earlier Apple Watch models prior to the introduction of the Apple Watch Series 4, which featured built-in ECG monitoring.

But only if a trade embargo a relic of a past reality, enacted 60 years ago in 1961 is lifted. It would allow business, tourism, and more to flow again between the U.S. and our neighbor just 90 miles to our south.
