The pandemic and Greece s debt: The day after | VOX, CEPR Policy Portal

Miranda Xafa Like the rest of the world, the Greek economy has entered into another deep economic recession in 2020. While the economy appeared to be on a modest recovery from its ‘great depression’ of 2010-2016, it was hit by a new major international economic shock due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It plans for the creation of a special university police force empowered to guard campuses and arrest those considered troublemakers as well as a disciplinary council able to suspend or expel students. Supporters of the reform argue that Greek universities have long been plagued by violence and those against it are afraid it will hinder freedom of expression.

In South Africa, a future scenario with severe climate change will feature a reduction of per capita GDP of up to 20% by the end of the century, compared to an idealized future without the impacts of a changing climate. This is what emerges from the study Climate change and development in South Africa: the impact of rising temperatures on economic productivity and labour availability , coordinated by the CMCC Foundation and RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE) and conducted in collaboration with the Athens University of Economics and Business, recently published in the Journal
