Etowah County inmate found dead in cell; no foul play suspected Updated Feb 12, 2021; An investigation is underway after an Etowah County Jail inmate was found dead Thursday morning. Christopher Daniel Greene, a 47-year-old Attalla man, was discovered unresponsive during a routine security check. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Etowah County Coroner’s Office. No foul play is suspected. Greene was initially booked into the jail on Wednesday on unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.  As is protocol, the sheriff’s office has asked an outside agency to investigate the in-custody death and to request an autopsy.
