Area health departments updated coronavirus numbers Tuesday. The Laurel County Health Department reported 31 new cases bringing the total to 5,718. The Lake Cumberland District Health Department reported that a 29-year-old woman from Pulaski County died due to COVID-19 bringing the county’s death toll to 79. The county also had 44 new cases. The Knox County Health Department reported 25 new cases. The Whitley County Health Department reported 12 new cases. The Cumberland Valley District Health Department reported Jackson County’s 27th death, a 55-year-old man. The county also reported 3 new cases. Clay County had 4 new cases and Rockcastle County 9.

Deaths: We are sad to report 1 new death today. We have experienced a total of 328 deaths resulting in a 1.81% mortality rate (about 1 in 55) among known cases.
