Iowa Restaurant And Bar COVID-19 Relief Program

A new grant program was recently announced by Governor Kim Reynolds that aims to assist restaurants and bars which have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The Iowa Restaurant and Bar Relief Grant Program, which will provide $40 million in assistance, will begin taking applications on February 1st, with the deadline for submissions by February 15th. The one-time grants will offer up to $25,000 to those businesses that experienced a decrease in gross sales in the second and third quarter of 2020.  The funds will go to assist those businesses in immediate cash flow, and the awards will come at varying levels depending on the percentage of lost sales.

It is designed to help eligible business owners start or expand their business. One of the participants is James Neely, who owns Bottle & Bottega, in downtown Des Moines.  The art studio invites people to learn to paint while enjoying wine or a beer.  When he started his business just a few years ago, he admits, there was a lot he had to learn.
