The United States and Iran are in active talks over the release of prisoners, a person familiar with the discussions said Sunday as Washington denied a report by Iranian state-run television that deals had been struck.
Prisoner swaps between the US and Iran are not uncommon and both countries in recent years have routinely sought the release of detainees.

The United States on Sunday immediately denied a report by Iranian state-run television that deals had been reached for the Islamic Republic to release U.S. and British prisoners in exchange for Tehran receiving billions of dollars.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the report represented a move by the hard-liners running the Iranian broadcaster to disrupt negotiations with the West amid talks in Vienna on Tehran s tattered nuclear deal.
It also wasn t known if there had been any ongoing negotiations with the West over frozen funds and prisoner exchanges, both of which accompanied the 2015 atomic accord.
Blinken: Military confrontation goes against US, China interests 1 minute read
Washington, May 2 (EFE).- United States State Secretary Antony Blinken said the possibility of a military confrontation between the US and China “goes profoundly against” the interests of both countries, adding that Washington wants to maintain a “rules-based” world order.
“I think it is deeply against the interests of both China and the United States to get to that point, or even to go in that direction,” Blinken said in a CBS’s News interview broadcast Sunday.
Blinken said what has been witnessed in recent years “is that China acts more repressively at home and more aggressive abroad.”
French police break up mass parties defying Covid curfew

PARIS: Hundreds of people flouted France’s coronavirus curfew over the weekend with underground parties in at least two cities, while police managed to prevent organisers from staging a mass rave in Paris, officials said on Sunday.
On Saturday near the eastern city of Dijon, nearly 400 people gathered at an abandoned hangar before police managed to cut power to the sound system at around 2:00 am Sunday. Police also used tear gas to prevent dozens of others from trying to sneak in despite efforts to clear the premises.
Two people were detained, including the suspected organiser, and police issued 205 fines for non-respect of the nationwide curfew that starts at 7:00 pm. This event is totally irresponsible given the health crisis in the country, the government’s top regional official Fabien Sudry told AFP.
