Scheme would see overhaul of UK’s 28 million homes over the next 20 years to improve energy efficiency
The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has called on the government to support a £525bn retrofit programme to make the UK’s 28 million homes greener over the next two decades.
The group said that without a long-term national retrofit strategy to improve the energy efficiency of homes, which currently emit 20% of the UK’s carbon emissions, the government will be unable to meet its targets to achieve net zero by 2050.

Since hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2015 which resulted in the Paris Climate Agreement, France has become a leading proponent for tropical forest conservation. This effort has included establishing a National Strategy to Combat Imported Deforestation (SNDI) to effectively apply a zero deforestation policy to commodities produced at the expense of forests in the tropics. One of the key institutions charged with implementing the SNDI abroad is the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), France’s overseas development agency. Since last year, AFD has been putting tens of millions of euros annually toward projects that contribute to conservation and restoration of tropical forests, while also supporting the groundwork for the “zero deforestation” public purchasing policy which is set to take effect in 2022. India, UK Discuss Blueprint to Deepen Indo-Pacific Cooperation
NEW DELHI Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab held talks in New Delhi on Dec. 15 about a wide range of topics that included deepening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, confronting security threats in the region, working together to end the coronavirus crisis, and tackling climate change.
“Welcomed UK’s Indo-Pacific tilt. Will cooperate closely on global issues and in multilateral organizations,” Jaishankar said in a message on Twitter. “Discussed opportunities in a post-COVID post-Brexit world for a stronger India-UK partnership. Working on Roadmap 2030 to that end.”
Raab, who also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Dec. 16, said the United Kingdom is “committed to building a closer relationship with India.”
