Syria: 12 murders in two weeks at Al Hol refugee camp

Twelve murders have taken place in a refugee camp in northeast Syria in just under two weeks, according to the United Nations in a statement released on January 21, launching an alarm over an increasingly untenable security environment. Controlled by Kurdish forces, the Al Hol camp is Syria s largest, hosting nearly 62,000 people, 80% of whom are women and children, whose nationalities range from Syrian to Iraqi as well as thousands from other far away countries both European and Asian.

Secretary-General Appoints Fabrizio Hochschild Drummond of Chile as Envoy on Technology United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the appointment of Fabrizio Hochschild Drummond of Chile as his Envoy on Technology. Taking into account the growing prominence of technology issues and the recognition that the United Nations must enhance its efforts on digital cooperation and global connectivity, the Envoy will lead the implementation of the Secretary-General s Roadmap on Digital Cooperation in close consultation with Member States, the technology industry, civil society and other stakeholders. The Envoy will complement ongoing technology-related efforts in relevant bodies and entities within the United Nations system.
