UPPL president Promod Boro will be the chief executive member (CEM) of the BTC. While his party won 12 seats, the BJP won nine –– 21 seats are required for majority. Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) which has won one seat has decided to support the BJP-UUPL coalition.

Guwahati: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and the BJP combine are likely to lead the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) following the two-phase elections held to the 40-member council. The elections have thrown up a fractured mandate with the ruling Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) winning only 17 seats. Led by the Hagrama Mohilary, a militant turned politician, the BPF emerged as the single-largest party.

BJP joins hand with UPPL-GSP to form BTC
Guwahati, Dec 13 (UNI) Sidelining it s Dispur coalition partner BPF, the BJP on Sunday joined hands with the United People s Party Liberal (UPPL) to form the next Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
Announcing the tie-up between UPPL, BJP and Gana Sangram Parishad (GSP), Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said here on Sunday that the UPPL will lead the new Council.
The UPPL will be the largest party in the alliance with 12 members, while BJP has eight members and GSP one.
